MERCURY is the chemical form of silver-colored liquid metal. Mercury have toxic properties which can not be destroyed and can be transported with much in the atmosphere.
In everyday life, mercury found in compact fluorescent lighting, health equipment such as thermometers and blood pressure monitor gauges, cosmetics, and small-scale gold mining.
Number of uses of mercury in human life is not balanced by a fairly high risk in its use.
Elements of mercury has a relatively short residence time in the human body, but the methyl compounds contained in it could settle in the human body 10 times longer.
If the mercury consumed or absorbed in the human body, the danger is large enough. Symptoms such as non-functioning of the brain, kidneys, tremors, anxiety or nervousness, insomnia, impaired lung function, slow the growth of the fetus, to liver damage at birth.
Cosmetics containing mercury also contain hazards that are not less great. Black spots appear, the skin becomes dark and dull when the use of cosmetics is stopped, it can even cause skin cancer.
To prevent the danger of mercury in the body, there are several actions that you can apply.
1. If you break the thermometer and the mercury in it spilled, do not touch directly by hand.
2. Dispose of broken mercury thermometers and luberan to separate and secure place. Do not dibuan into public landfills, especially into waterways. Water from these drains will lead to the sea and can be ingested by fish which later consumed by humans.
3. Use a digital thermometer to reduce the dangers of mercury. If the thermometer breaks, there will be no mercury that comes out.
